Prague has made its way through the world's competition of cities and has ranked eighth in the ranking of the most popular congress destinations, which is compiled annually by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). Prague has improved its position up three posts in 2016 and has thus ranked among the top 10 congressional destinations in the world.
Prague belongs to the the world's top in congress industry. Barcelona was the first place this year, followed by Paris, Vienna, Berlin, London, Singapore and Madrid. The top ten is closed by Lisbon and Seoul.
In 2017, according to the Czech Statistical Office, up to 4,127 conferences were held in Prague, representing a third of all the events that took place in the Czech Republic.
More than half a million delegates participated in the Prague conferences, showing in the long run that Prague has a stable ratio of international (49.2%) and local events (50.8%). Foreign delegates headed to Prague in 2017, most often from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland and France.
Among the most frequently discussed topics of Prague meetings were pharmacy, industry and commerce. In terms of the size of events, smaller corporate meetings with participation of between 10 and 149 delegates dominate over large association events. Congresses with more than a thousand participants took place in Prague last year in total of 50.
Popular periods for events are still spring and autumn, in 2017 the most popular month was May.
The ICCA International Congress Association recorded a record number of congresses and conferences in 2017. The largest number of association events were held in the following countries: USA (941 events), Germany (682 events), Great Britain (592 events), Spain (564 events) and Italy (521 events)
