Borosilicate glass, type 3.3
This type of glass contains approx. 81% silicon dioxide and approx. 13% boron trioxide is featured in high chemical durability, low coefficient of linear thermal expansion and therefore even to high resistance against temperature changes.
Borosilicate glass represents an internationally defined glass type, suitable for manufacturing the majority of laboratory glassware, devices and industrial apparatus.
This glass has an excellent corrosion resistance, smooth imporous surface, perfect transparency, catalytically indifferent, odourless and tasteless.
Borosilicate glass resists practically all aggressive agents except hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid and concentrated hot alkalis which considerably affects the surfaces of the glass. Hydrofluoric acid damages glass surface mostly at low concentrations and it is thus applied to etching scales on volumetric glass. Phosphoric acid and alkalis damage glass only slightly al low temperatures and concentrations. Continual changing acidulous and alkalinous medium increases corrosions.
Borosilicate glass does not account of sizeable absorption within visible spectrum and is clear and colourless. Penetrability of ultra-violet rays occurs within medium spectrum and it is higher than by usual sheet glass what makes it possible for laboratory glass to be applied to photochemical reactions e.g. to sulphonatic and halogenatic processes.
Soda-lime glass
This glass is suitable for production of glassware which should resist to chemical influence for a short time, partially also to temperature differences.
Soda-lime glass products are used in various industries as e.g. health services and food-processing industry are. The glass is colourless or with blue or green shade.
