Government approves further liberalisations of railroads

Government of the Czech Republic approved a draft amendment to the Act on Railways.

On October 24, 2018, the Government of the Czech Republic approved a draft amendment to the Act on Railways. The norm stipulates further liberalization of Czech railroads and the related possible entry of foreign carriers also into the passenger transport segment. The existing law must also be amended in the area of flat-rate exemptions allowing the direct conclusion of public service contracts in rail transport. These exceptions will not be allowed after 2028. At the same time, the government proposes the establishment of a common information system and an integrated system for issuing tickets, uniform tickets and reservations.
