Last month, The Prague Public Transit Co. Inc. placed new contactless payment automats to every tram in the city for an easier option to obtain tickets. Prague is in this way joining to the modernization of transport that is taking place around the whole republic. Mayor of the city, Zdenek Hrib is very proud of the initiative: ‘Contactless payments are the future, even in the transport. Finally, Prague’s citizens as well as its tourists will have the same possibilities as people in other modern metropolis.’ New automats work for various kinds of tariffs and due to their multiple-language versions they are user-friendly for tourists from different parts of the world. These automats are currently exclusive for trams, however this is about to change soon. ‘We are excited to lead The Prague Public Transit to smart society and contribute to our common goal – Prague as a smart city. We are currently installing four contactless ticket machines to the city’s underground every week, and preparing tender for contactless terminals for buses. There’s a high possibility that by next year, people could buy tickets using contactless payment in every single mean of public transit, says the CEO and the Chairman of the Board of The Prague Public Transit, Petr Witowski.
