European GNSS Agency (GSA), based in Prague, is in charge of managing the EU's Galileo navigation satellite program and is the only EU agency with its headquarters in the Czech Republic. Last month, representatives of the European parliament, the EU state members and the European Commission agreed in Brussels that the agency would be expanding due to the wider scope of dozens of new employees. In addition, the Agency should associate the management of the operation of EU space programs and renaming themselves to Agency for Space Program. This plan fits into the European Commission's program, which has proposed, for the period 2021-2027, to invest EUR 16 billion in the European space program, of which only 9.7 billion EUR for satellite navigation systems. GSA has been operating in Prague since 2012, and has since brought into the Czech state budget over three billion crowns. As expressed by MEP Evžen Tošenovský, the extension of this agency is not only a matter of prestige for Prague and the entire Czech Republic, but also an opportunity for domestic companies, science and research. Galileo is a European global satellite system that competes with the US GPS navigation program. GSA reports that at the end of last year, over 400 million people around the world used the service, including about 700,000 in the Czech Republic.
