An Increasing Number of Companies in Czechia Are Calling Employees Back to the Office

The latest data shows that employee attendance at the office has increased significantly over the last two years. While offices were only about one-third full then, their average occupancy has now exceeded 60 percent for the first time since the Covid (novinky.cz).

According to a recent analysis by real estate and consulting firm Savills, companies are gradually limiting work-from-home options, citing the need for personal interaction, better facilities, and “peace of mind” at work. The study found that Prague offices were among the busiest in Europe, with an occupancy rate of 61 percent, a 9-percentage-point increase from last year.

In contrast, before the start of the pandemic, offices were typically around 70 percent full. While Fridays remain the most popular day for remote work, even that is on the decline (Expats.cz).

While some corporations are taking a firmer stance, ordering employees back to the office full-time, others are sticking with the hybrid model. To achieve this, companies are reimagining office spaces. They’re creating more segmented work areas for privacy, investing in amenities, and building relaxation zones, gyms, and spaces for natural colleague interactions.

As Martina Havlíčková, fit-out manager at Wood Real Estate, puts it, “Employers must offer something extra beyond the desk and chair employees have at home” (Czechdaily.cz)
