Pražská energetika (PRE) has started the construction of its largest photovoltaic power plant to date in Nový Sedlo in the Sokolov region. Nearly 38,000 solar panels with a total capacity of more than 22 megawatt peak (MWp) will produce emission-free electricity on an area of 19 hectares.
The emerging solar park is one of the largest in the Czech Republic. It will produce emission-free electricity from 37,622 large-format solar panels with bifacial technology and a total installed capacity of over 22 MWp. The photovoltaic power plant Nové Sedlo can thus produce up to 24 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually. This can completely cover the total annual consumption of about 16,000 Prague households.
The Nové Sedlo photovoltaic power plant is being built as part of the reclamation and reuse of land owned by Sokolovská uhelná after mining. "From our point of view, this is an ideal way to use reclaimed mined land. Sokolovská uhelná and the SUAS Group have been involved in post-mining landscape restoration since the 1990s, and during that time we have invested a total of 5.5 billion CZK in reclamation. SUAS Group employees are also involved in the implementation of the investment. Moreover, the solar park is being built with a view to preserving the conditions for the life of some rare animal species in the area," said Pavel Tomek, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Sokolovská uhelná and SUAS Group.
