ŠKODA JS, a member of the ČEZ Group, has extended the lifetime of the insertion rods that are part of the controls of VVER 440 nuclear reactors.

Originally they had to be changed every five years, but thanks to modifications they can now operate safely for 18 to 20 years. The substantial increase in service life also means significant savings in material, labour and thus money. In practice, nuclear power plant (NPP) operators will save tens to hundreds of millions of korunas.
