In the past
three years the state has supported research and development in the Czech
Republic with CZK 100bn. This was reported by the Czech Statistical Office,
according to which universities accounted for 44 % of this total, workplaces of
the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic received 28 % and private
companies 10 %. The Czech Republic is at the European average when it comes to
the share of state support to GDP ratio. The largest portion of research and
development spending went in 2019 into general and unfocused research. This
involved CZK 20.5bn or almost 60 % of overall support allocated last year. In healthcare
the state allocated CZK 4.4bn.
