As of May
31, 2022, the Labour Office of the Czech Republic (ÚP) registered a total of
235 468 job seekers, a month-on-month decrease of 8190. Year-on-year, their
number decreased by 50 354 persons. The share of unemployed fell by 0.7 pp to
3.2% compared to May 2021. Since the outbreak of the war, a total of 68 885
Ukrainian citizens have gained employment in the Czech Republic, of whom around
three quarters are women. Some have already returned to their home country or
left employment. At the end of May, 56 388 Ukrainians with temporary protection
were working in the country. According to Eurostat data for April 2022, the
unemployment rate in the Czech Republic was the lowest in the EU at 2.4%. The
EU average was 6.2%.
