Covid-19 obstructs beer sales in the Czech Republic but the brewery fights back

Czech brewery company Pivovary Staropramen owned by Molson Coors sold 3.19 million hectolitres of beer in 2020. The result was impacted primarily by the COVID-19 pandemic and the related repeated closure of one of two sales channels, i.e. pubs and restaurants. Pivovary Staropramen recorded a decrease of 37% in the field of on-trade. The lower sales were partially offset by a growth in the volume by 8% recorded in retail. Even despite the unfavourable conditions, the company did not reduce wages or the number of employees and invested dozens of millions of CZK in the support of gastronomy in 2020.
