The livability and beauty of the Czech capital has been confirmed again.

Prague has placed seventh overall in Time Out magazine’s 2021 Index of the best cities in the world to live in. The Czech capital was among five European cities to make it into the top 10 of the ranking which focuses on several aspects including culture, nightlife and food.

Lockdowns hit Prague suddenly and severely last year, but despite this, Time Out writes, some 82 percent of Prague locals still sung the praises of the city’s looks. Benefits of pandemic-stricken Prague included having Charles Bridge almost to one’s self, or the ability to have a coffee down on a deserted side street. A total of 89 survey respondents told the magazine that the Czech capital is incredibly walkable and easy to get around with a car.

Praise was also lavished on the Prague 6 district, which has “huge swathes of greenery” and all-year playgrounds where people can indulge in various recreational activities.

Time Out’s David Creighton mentioned that the city was most likely to be described as “beautiful” by residents and that it came second overall in the “relaxation” category.

More than 27,000 people from all around the world took part in the ranking process. This year, the ranking categories also focused on aspects such as the sustainability of green areas, or support for public events.

The top spot in Time Out’s index was taken by San Francisco, which took first spot in the rankings’ “progressive” category and second place in terms of sustainability. Amsterdam and UK Manchester came in second and third respectively. The Dutch city came in third overall in the “sustainability” category and was rated as the second best place for “taking a walk in nature”. Manchester, on the other hand, scored high in the “nightlife”, “friendliness” and “creativity” categories.

When it comes to other Central European cities, the Hungarian capital of Budapest was ranked 29th, with Time Out praising the city’s beautiful hiking spots.
