The amount of lithium that would be produced from the deposit in
Cínovec is sufficient for the production of up to 800,000 electric
cars each year, depending on their size. ČEZ informed about this,
saying that metal is an essential part of batteries in e-cars. It is also
used in battery storage for renewable energy or in pharmaceuticals.
It will help the Czech Republic to strengthen energy and raw material
security and support the already ongoing transformation of coal
regions into centers of modern energy and the development of
electromobility. Thanks to lithium production, the Czech Republic
will maintain its position in the automotive industry, which accounts
for 10 % of GDP. ČEZ plans to extract approximately 1.8 million tons
of ore annually from 2026 through Geomet.
