ČEZ (Czech nuclear power plant owner)and Rolls-Royce SMR have discussed the deployment of a fleet of British small modular reactors (SMR) in the Czech Republic.

Representatives of ČEZ and Rolls-Royce SMR have discussed the deployment of a fleet of British small modular reactors (SMR) in the Czech Republic. They could be operational after 2030. The aim is to ensure long-term energy security, meet zero emissions targets and decarbonise the electricity grid and industry. The meeting included a trip to the Škoda JS and Doosan Škoda Power plants, which could be involved in the plans. ČEZ and Rolls-Royce SMR signed a memorandum of understanding in 2020. Spokesman Petr Šuleř added for ČIANEWS that ČEZ is in contact with NuScale, Westinghouse, GE-Hitachi, Holtec, Rolls Royce, KHNP and EdF regarding the SMR. The first project is planned to be built on the site of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant.
