On December 4, 2020, the Coal Commission agreed to reduce coal in
the Czech Republic by 2038. Minister of Industry and Trade Karel
Havlíček said that this was a compromise solution, which
means ensuring energy self-sufficiency and CO2 savings of 138
million tons. The costs associated with investments in new
resources and solutions will reach CZK 355bn. The commission
recommendation including conditions will now be discussed by the
government.
