The European Commission (EC) has proposed a new legislative instrument and roadmap to reduce gas use in Europe by 15% between August 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The Commission will also accelerate work on diversification of supply, including joint gas purchasing to strengthen the EU's ability to source gas from alternative sources. Member States should update their national emergency plans by the end of September 2022 to show how they intend to meet the reduction target.
