The Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) has introduced a new type of drone that independently fires capsules to mitigate the intensity of fires in multi-story buildings. The functionality of the drone was tested during a mock intervention with a fire in an abandoned building. The drone works on the principle of onboard sensors and artificial intelligence that detects fire using an infrared camera. After locating the fire, the drone shoots a half-kilogram capsule with a substance into the fire, which removes the heat from the fire, thus reducing its intensity. This gives firefighters more time to reach higher floors and save lives.
According to available information, no similar system has been deployed anywhere in the world. In the future, the drone's creators want the drone to be able to fire up to six capsules at once through a window that the drone itself breaks.
