The government of the Czech Republic approved the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy on Monday, 6 May 2019. The Czech Republic thus now ranks among the most advanced countries of Europe and of the world that have a clear plan for asserting themselves and succeeding in this technology of the future.

“We have a major opportunity to use top-level Czech research in this ground-breaking technology as a key tool for our future. We thus rank among the European technological elite, which will not only set the direction in the area of industry, but is also becoming a major global player in the development of cybersecurity so that we can resist a significant global threat such as data theft,” says deputy prime minister and minister of industry and trade Karel Havlíček. “The National AI Strategy is linked to the Innovation Strategy and is one of the first tangible steps aimed at returning the Czech Republic among the most advanced countries in the world.”

The priority issues of artificial intelligence in the Czech Republic are based both on the results of science and on industrial and public applications. These include security and defence, industrial production and communication between humans and machines. The strategy covers the economy and society, from support for science, research, education and the social system to regulation and international cooperation. Its purpose is to support both the public and private sectors, i.e. representatives of the state, firms and the academic sphere.

In accordance with the strategy, the Czech Republic will endeavour to establish one of four planned European research centres in Prague, which should occur by 2021.
