ŠKODA AUTO to use emission-free power for production As part of its GreenFuture strategy, ŠKODA AUTO has set a target that by the end of the decade, the energy used for the production of vehicles and components at its plants in the Czech Republic will come from carbon-neutral sources. The high-tech plant in Vrchlabí is a pioneer. By the end of 2021, the company plans to replace natural gas with CO2-neutral methane from biogas plants. ŠKODA uses technologies from Industry 4.0 to reduce its environmental impact throughout the value chain. The AI-based OPTIKON app, among other things, calculates the best way to place pallets in containers and saved 505 shipments in 2020 alone, which corresponds to a saving of 180 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
