State export-promoting agency CzechTrade had 1,247 clients in 2019, which is an annual hike of 4 percent and the biggest number since the economic crisis, according to data CzechTrade released at today's press conference and its website.
CzechTrade helped mediate 1,065 export opportunities last year.
Czech exports amounted to record-breaking CZK 3.690bn last year, up by 2 percent year on year, according to preliminary data of the Czech Statistical Office (CSU). It was the best result since at least 2005.
It will be difficult to maintain the upward trend, Industry and Trade Minister Karel Havlicek said.
Czechia's comparative advantage is low input costs, but it can no longer rely on this or low wages, he said.
Czechia continues to be successful mainly in car exports, and also in telecommunications, Havlicek said.
Apart from its established export markets, Czechia has been strengthening in Switzerland, the USA and Japan, Havlicek said.
While exports to Germany, Czechia's main partner, were not as successful as the total volume, situation in Russia has been improving and exports to the USA are rising, CzechTrade head Radomil Dolezal said.
Last year, CzechTrade managed to strengthen its regional network, and this year it wants to deepen cooperation with state agencies CzechInvest and CzechTourism, Dolezal said.
At the end of last year, the ministry said that the three agencies would move under one roof in Q1 2020.
CzechTrade, controlled by the Industry and Trade Ministry, has been active since 1997 and has offices in 59 countries. It helps Czech businesses penetrate foreign markets.
