Investments in research and development (R&D) in the Czech

 

Republic in 2018 grew CZK 12.3bn y/y to CZK 102.8bn. Czech

 

Statistical Office chairman Marek Rojíček said that in relation to

 

GDP, expenditures increased to 1.93% and that the Czech Republic

 

got closer to the EU average. Entrepreneurial sources (almost CZK

 

60bn) contributed the most to the 14% increase in research and

 

development expenditures. Companies invest mainly in their own

 

corporate research and development. At the end of 2018, 113,500

 

persons were involved in this sector and their number increased by

 

20,000 over the past five years.
