Inflation accelerates to 17.2%

Consumer prices in the Czech Republic rose by 17.2% y/y in June 2022, up 1.2 pp from May.

The data from the Czech Statistical Office show that the biggest contributors to the price level growth were prices in the housing section, where, in addition to the cost of owning a home, prices of rent from a housing unit rose by 4.6%, water rent by 5.3%, sewerage by 6.4%, electricity by 31.6%, and heat and hot water by 18.1%. Prices of goods and services increased by 19.3% and 13.9% respectively. According to preliminary Eurostat data, the year-on-year change in the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices in the EU27 was 8.8% in May, 0.7 pp higher than in April.
