Retail sales grow by 4.4% in 2021

Retail sales adjusted for calendar effects rose by 1.5% y/y in real terms in December 2021 and by 3.3% y/y unadjusted.

They rose 4.7% for fuel and 2.1% for non-food goods. In contrast, they fell by 0.2% for food. Internet and mail-order stores accounted for the largest share of the total sales increase in December (+8.6%). This is based on data from the Czech Statistical Office. For the full year 2021, calendar-adjusted sales in retail trade excluding motor vehicles increased by 4.5% y/y in real terms, and by 4.4% unadjusted. Sales of goods sold via the internet or mail order grew the most, up 16.3%.
