Czech Republic will have to build new nuclear units due to decline of large power sources

Czech Republic cannot withdraw from the strategic construction of new nuclear units. This was stated by Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (ANO) with reference to grid operator ČEPS’ Source Adequacy Assessment of the Czech Electricity System until 2040 and the European id-term Adequacy Forecast, according to which there is a clear trend of decline of large power sources in CR. The minister added that the missing production resources have to be replaced so that the Czech Republic was energy self-sufficient and electricity supplies were safe. At the same time, it is necessary to open discussions over other blocks in Temelín over the next five years.
