It will be up to the next government to open a tender
for the construction of the next unit in the nuclear power plant Dukovany. According
to information provided by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech
Republic (MPO), the procurement procedure will be preceded by a safety
assessment of individual candidates. They will be invited by the investor,
Elektrárna Dukovany II, to submit information by the end of November 2021 to
meet the requirements, including cybersecurity. ČEZ will then submit the
information to the government. It shall decide which candidates shall be
invited to submit their tenders in the context of the selection procedure. The investor
will now address French EDF, Korean KHNP, Russian Rosatom, and US-Canadian
Westinghouse. The construction will likely begin in 2029. The new unit will
likely be put in a test operation in 2036.
