The energy company InterGen, in which the Sev.en group
has an equity stake, has succeeded in a UK government auction. It has won a
15-year contract for its large-scale battery storage project in the UK. This
will store surplus renewable energy and can provide fast back-up power for the
electricity grid during periods of excess demand. The Gateway Battery Energy
Storage System will be able to provide up to 320 MW/640 MWh of energy for over
300,000 homes and businesses, with the potential to expand to 450 MW/900 MWh.
The project, worth ca. GBP 200m, first received planning consent from BEIS in
November 2020. Construction will start in 2023.
