Engineers at Brno University of Technology (VUT) have developed a communication unit capable of testing the safety or data transmission by connecting it to a conventional electricity meter. Experts from the VUT have also developed a procedure to test
whether new electricity meters from manufacturers in different countries are sufficiently secure. Based on an EU directive, electricity distributors must install smart meters by 2027 for customers with an annual consumption of more than 6 MWh.
