On June 24, 2021, the University of Chemistry and Technology in
Prague (VŠCHT) opened CirkTech. This new research centre will
focus on researching advanced mechanical and chemical processes
for the circular economy. Its first task will be to verify its own
patented technology to obtain lithium, which is in short supply. The
centre is part of Technopark Kralupy and located at the Lafarge
Cement site in Čížkovice. Its essential equipment includes an
experimental rotating furnace that has been in trial operation since
May 2021. The University set up CirkTech with its funding of CZK
40m, and its annual operating costs should be around CZK 20m.
