Scientists discover new cell role in transplants

An international research team led by Meritxell Alberich-Jordá from the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (AV ČR) has identified cells and molecules present in a donor's blood as key elements managing the activity of haematopoietic stem cells in a bone-marrow transplant. The study has been published in the Stem Cell Reports journal. The success of a bone-marrow transplant depends on the optimal condition of a donor's haematopoietic stem cells donated to the recipient. (Source: ČIA News, www.cianews.cz/en)
