A team of US and Czech scientists made a major discovery in the mechanism of gene expression within the cellular level.

A team of scientists from Baylor College of Medicine in the USA and the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences has discovered yet another process that controls the switching on and off (expression) of genes in the cell. Their results reveal a previously unknown mechanism that coordinates the folding of different components in the cell into more complex assemblies that ultimately control gene expression. This mechanism is not only crucial for basic cellular functions, but may also play a role in the development of cancer, neurodegenerative diseases or HIV infection.
