AV ČR: New type of luminaire may help lasers

Scientists from the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (AV ČR) and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University have discovered a new way of constructing superradiant light sources using two-dimensional semiconductors. The method can help solve several problems faced by state-of-the-art laser technologies. Martin Kalbáč of the CAS said the new concept opens up further possibilities for the design of ultrathin radiation sources whose wavelength can be tuned by the number of layers of 2D semiconductor and boron nitride and the external electric and magnetic field.
