On June 24, 2021,
the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (VŠCHT) opened CirkTech.
This new research centre will focus on researching advanced mechanical and
chemical processes for the circular economy. Its first task will be to verify
its own patented technology to obtain lithium, which is in short supply. The
centre is part of Technopark Kralupy and located at the Lafarge Cement site in
Čížkovice. Its essential equipment includes an experimental rotating furnace
that has been in trial operation since May 2021. The University set up CirkTech
