In 2019 the production of Czech breweries increased by 1.6 % y/y to 21.6m hl. This result is primarily owed to exports, which increased by 4.5 % to 5.4m hl, exports of non-alcoholic beer improved by 22 %. The Czech Beer and Malt Association (ČSPS) stated that overall beer consumption in the Czech Republic increased by 0.9 % to 16.7m hl. Slovakia, Germany and Poland remain the most important export markets in the EU; outside of the EU they are Russia, South Korea and the USA. Imports of beer from abroad increased by 10.7 % to 424,000 hl. Due to the pandemic and related measures, a significant negative impact is expected on the sector along with the decline of the entire market. The y/y drop in production in the first five months of 2020 will be between 1.5 and 2 million hl.
