The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources
(RES) in total electricity consumption in the EU increased year-onyear
to 37.5% in 2020 from 34%. In the Czech Republic it was 15%
and in Slovakia about 23%, according to Eurostat data. Austria has
the highest share of electricity from renewable sources with 78% of
total consumption. Sweden follows with 75%. Wind (36%) and hydro
(33%) accounted for the largest share of energy production in the
EU. The share of solar power has increased from 1% to 14% since
2008.
