The government has approved
the purchase of 246 Swedish CV90 infantry fighting vehicles for CZK 59.7bn. The
Czech Ministry of Defence (MO) negotiated the purchase of the vehicles less than
a year after the ministry's management decided to cancel the original tender.
The contract secures at least a 40% share of the Czech defence industry in this
order. This means for domestic companies (there should be about 30 of them) not
only an opportunity to cooperate on vehicles for the Czech army, but also, after
an agreement with the manufacturer BAE Systems-Hägglunds, a possible
involvement in future contracts for other European countries. The subcontract
has already been signed by VOP CZ, VR Group (owned by the state enterprise LOM
PRAHA), Excalibur Army, Meopta and Ray Service.
