The city of Prague, through its fully-owned company Pražský Dopravní Podnik (DPP), is set to release a tender valued at CZK 86 billion for the automation of the subway traffic on line C. This ambitious project aims to improve transport capacity and efficiency. Mayor Zdenek Hrib emphasizes that automation will allow for reducing train intervals to 90 seconds, a significant enhancement for the Metrlo C line, already operating at its maximum capacities with intervals of around 115 seconds during peak hours.

The tender includes the procurement of 68 new automated trains, modifications to platforms, and maintenance for 35 years. Mayor Hrib stresses the need for an early announcement, considering additional time for testing and homologations. The winner of the tender is expected to be revealed approximately two years after the announcement.

Following the contract signature, preparatory work and vehicle development are slated for 2026 and 2027. Vehicle production, certification, and homologation are set to commence in 2027 and 2028, with trial operations scheduled for 2028 and 2029. Successful trial operations will pave the way for serial production, with the first trains expected to be delivered thereafter, according to DPP Director Petr Witowski. This strategic initiative is poised to transform Prague's subway system, aligning it with modern automation standards.
