SYRI: COVID accelerated cybercrime

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated some existing trends in criminality. Cyberspace-related crime has increased, linked to the shift of many human activities to the online space. This is shown by the open data of the Czech Police, analysed by the National Institute SYRI. Overall, crime has dropped significantly with the introduction of anti-pandemic measures. After their easing or abolition, it returned to normal levels relatively quickly. Crime related to public space decreased, in particular the number of thefts against persons decreased drastically.
