May alone confirmed the growing trend, with production increasing by 9%. This trend is also reflected in the segment of electric vehicles, of which 72,796 were manufactured between January and May and make up over 12.2% of total production. Only the categories of buses and motorcycles reported a decrease. According to Automotive Industry Association (AutoSAP) executive director Zdeněk Petzl, the drop was caused by the cyclic aspect of orders and the ongoing shortage of components.
