Over the past year, the Czech Republic’s defence industry has re-emerged as one of Central Europe’s quiet success stories.
Long known for its engineering tradition and strong manufacturing base, the sector has been gaining global recognition through new international partnerships and export agreements that signal both technological capability and production resilience.
A notable example came in September 2025, when the Czech company STV Group announced a strategic partnership with Quantum Dynamic to market and manufacture a new generation of mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles in the Czech Republic. The collaboration demonstrates the country’s ability to handle high-specification, defence-grade production, combining local expertise in armoured-vehicle engineering with modern manufacturing technologies.
This development follows several other successes, including increased exports of Czech artillery systems and ammunition to NATO partners and ongoing collaborations with European defense suppliers. From a UK perspective, this momentum presents an interesting opportunity. British manufacturers, currently under pressure to expand output and secure supply chains for defence vehicles and components, may find in Czech suppliers a reliable and cost-effective partner base. The Czech industrial ecosystem offers strong mechanical-engineering capability, a skilled workforce, and existing compliance with EU and NATO standards, all of which reduce integration risk.
If the recent STV Group–Quantum Dynamic project is any indication, the Czech Republic is ready to move from subcontractor to strategic partner and the UK, facing rising demand for defence-vehicle modernisation, may find a valuable ally just across the continent.
