The defense and engineering group Czechoslovak Group (CSG) is acquiring a 49 % stake in the Hungarian company 4iG Space & Defence Technologies, thereby gaining influence over Rába, a company that manufactures, among other things, heavy vehicles.
Under the agreement, Rába will produce 2,000 Tatra vehicles in Hungary for the Hungarian army. At the same time, CSG is bringing to Rába a project to manufacture medium military vehicles worth €1 billion (cca CZK 24.3 billion) for export to Southeast Asia. According to Tatra Trucks CEO Kristijan Fiket, Rába will produce the first Tatra vehicles by the end of the year. Based on an agreement between 4iG, the American defense company Lockheed Martin, and Rába, HIMARS systems will be integrated onto Tatra vehicle chassis. Due to its proximity and Rába’s vehicle production, Hungary is an ideal location for expanding Tatra vehicle manufacturing, CSG representatives told journalists. In Central Europe, the group is already active in Slovakia, where another CSG company produces artillery ammunition. In Hungary, the Czech defense group Colt CZ Group SE (Colt CZ) is also present, manufacturing small arms and ammunition for armed forces and personal defense. Rába was founded in 1896, and shares of Rába Automotive Holding are traded on the Budapest Stock Exchange. Rába vehicles are used by the Hungarian armed forces, and the company also cooperates with international partners, for example on the Gidrán 4x4 armored vehicle program. Its products are exported to European Union countries, post-Soviet states, and the United States.
