As part of our academic program at the University of Economics, we had the unique opportunity to spend three months at the CzechTrade office in Jakarta. During this time, we gained not only valuable professional experience but also a deeper understanding of the local culture and business environment in Indonesia.

Our tasks were diverse – we wrote articles, prepared acquisition letters, participated in trade fairs, conferences, and seminars, and visited a number of Indonesian companies and professional associations. I also had the opportunity to visit the new capital, Nusantara, and meet many interesting people from various embassies and international institutions.

Living and working in Indonesia showed us how deeply culture influences business interactions. Unlike the fast pace of Europe, Indonesians approach things calmly, are friendly, helpful, and able to maintain composure even in challenging situations. This taught us patience, flexibility, and that building relationships and effective communication are often just as important as the agenda itself. We also adapted to the tropical heat and humidity, various social customs, and subtle differences in attitudes toward time and formality.

The internship at CzechTrade provided us with practical experience in international trade as well as invaluable life lessons in cross-cultural communication and adaptability. Indonesia is a fascinating country that can only be truly understood through personal experience – from its friendly people to its diverse cultural practices and dynamic business environment.

We highly recommend this internship and a stay in Indonesia to all students who want to experience global business firsthand and gain insights that truly change one’s perspective on work and life.
