After 40 Years, Prague Opens the Modern Praha–Bubny Railway Station

Prague has inaugurated the reconstructed Praha–Bubny station, the first completely new railway station in the capital in four decades. The architecturally unique building, where trains arrive directly inside, is part of a wider rail upgrade connecting the city to Václav Havel Airport and Kladno, and improving accessibility in the Holešovice district.

After 40 years, Prague welcomes a new railway station: the reconstructed Praha–Bubny enters service.

Prague’s new Praha–Bubny railway station, under reconstruction since 2023, officially opened its doors to passengers on August 2, 2025. Replacing the old and modest 1920s-era station, this spacious and modern building brings renewed vitality to the Holešovice district north of the city center.

The station features a striking, cavernous design measuring 250 by 50 meters, built with reinforced concrete and topped with skylights that flood the interior with natural light. What sets Praha–Bubny apart is its architectural uniqueness: the trains actually enter into the building—rather than run alongside it—making it the only station of its kind in the Czech Republic.

This opening is just one part of a broader infrastructure upgrade aiming to enhance rail links to the west of Prague, including connections to Václav Havel Airport and Kladno. A newly operational stop near the Výstaviště exhibition grounds now serves trains running on an elevated track section, built on pillars for almost a kilometer. This design transforms accessibility across Holešovice, bridging the two halves of the district and improving pedestrian and cyclist movement.
