Brno-based company Frentech Aerospace manufactures key components for the European Space Rider – a €12 million contract
Company Frentech Aerospace is providing various components and parts for three vehicles in the European Space Rider
Brno-based Frentech Aerospace supplies the landing gear and the payload bay door mechanism for the European Space Rider. The contract is worth €12 million.
Frentech Aerospace manufactures both the nose landing gear and the main landing gear for three Space Rider vehicles (engineering, qualification and flight models), as well as the payload bay door opening mechanism for the qualification and flight models. The company won the contract in 2021. The components are made of steel with a strength of around 2,000 MPa, for which it was difficult to find subcontractors in Europe. As a result, Frentech manufactured the most challenging parts itself.
Space Rider is an unmanned, reusable orbital laboratory designed by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the routine transport of experiments to low Earth orbit and back. It first decelerates using a subsonic parachute system, then deploys a guided parafoil before making a soft landing on its landing gear. This is where the Czech-made landing gear comes into play – it absorbs the impact during landing and protects the valuable payload inside.
