The Czech government has awarded a contract to South Korean company KHNP to build two new nuclear units at the Dukovany power station.
Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced on Wednesday 17th July that the cabinet had approved the construction of two units at Dukovany power plant and mentioned the possibility of adding up to two more units at the country’s second nuclear power plant, Temelín.
France’s EDF was also a contender for this largest tender in Czech history, but according to the prime minister, KHNP’s bid was superior in all respects. The cost of one unit is estimated to be around 200 billion CZK, though analysts caution that initial cost projections are typically much lower than the actual final price of such projects.
