Czech Republic’s Automotive Industry Records Growth Amid Challenges

Car manufacturers have achieved a 5% Y-on-Y increase in production as of November, producing 1.37 million vehicles.

However, electric vehicle (EV) production faced a setback, dropping by 17% to 143,578 units, including plug-in hybrids. EVs now represent around 10% of total output. Despite this decline,

Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Automotive Industry Association, remains optimistic, predicting annual production will surpass 2023 figures and set new domestic records. He also highlighted concerns about the stagnating European market, which could impact local manufacturers and suppliers.

Škoda Auto, the nation’s leading automaker, demonstrated resilience with a 4.6% increase in production, reaching 844,721 passenger vehicles. Electric vehicles accounted for 10.9% of Škoda’s production. Meanwhile, Hyundai’s Nošovice plant saw a slight 2.3% decrease, producing 310,250 vehicles.

Toyota’s Kolín plant has been a standout performer, reporting a 20% surge in production to 210,845 vehicles. This recovery follows last year’s supply chain disruptions, with the hybrid Yaris HEV model now constituting nearly half of Toyota’s output.

Despite these achievements, industry analysts warn of difficult times ahead. November marked the second consecutive month of declining vehicle production compared to the previous year, a trend expected to persist into December and beyond.
