The European Startup Alliance has released its 2024 report on the EU Startup Nations Standards (SNS), evaluating how member states support innovative entrepreneurship. The Czech Republic ranks 20th among the participating countries, highlighting ongoing challenges in the local startup ecosystem and the need for further policy and structural improvements to foster growth and competitiveness.
The Czech Republic, through CzechInvest and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has been actively involved in the European Startup Nations Standard (SNS) initiative to improve conditions for innovative companies. Despite signing the SNS declaration in 2021, the country currently ranks 20th, reflecting that much work remains in aligning national policies with European startup standards. Positive developments in 2024 include the creation of the Coordination Council for Investors and Startups, and a new parliamentary subcommittee dedicated to startups, signaling increased political interest. Key challenges remain in areas like talent retention, ESOP implementation, and public procurement, although some progress was seen in access to finance and regulatory innovation. The Czech Startup Association and other stakeholders are pushing for a comprehensive "startup law" to further enhance the ecosystem.
