Czech Republic Prioritizes Skilled Foreign Workers

Czech Republic is changing its rules for accepting foreign workers. It will prioritize skilled professionals over low-skilled labor

Starting in July, the Czech government will adjust quotas for foreign workers to attract more qualified specialists from countries outside the EU. The plan includes admitting 650 skilled workers from China, 24 IT specialists from India, and 120 experts from other Asian countries. The quota for 120 low-skilled workers from Africa will be removed, but 420 places for African scientists and experts will remain.

These changes stem from a proposal by the Ministry of the Interior and apply to long-term visas lasting over 90 days. The business sector welcomes the steps but warns that labor shortages will persist. Around half of Czech companies already rely on foreign workers, mostly from Ukraine and the Philippines.
