Prague is introducing Škoda ForCity Plus 52T trams with 20% more capacity and full low-floor design. First units arrive by April 2025, boosting comfort, accessibility, and network modernization.
Prague is set to introduce a new generation of modern trams — the Škoda ForCity Plus 52T — designed specifically for the city's transport needs. The high-capacity, low-floor trams were unveiled this week on Škoda's test track in Plzeň and are expected to arrive in the capital between late March and early April, pending homologation approval. Full passenger service is scheduled by the end of 2025.
According to former Deputy Mayor for Transport Adam Scheinherr, these trams will increase passenger comfort, safety, and accessibility. With 20% more capacity than current models and low-floor design throughout, they aim to significantly improve mobility for elderly passengers, parents with strollers, and people with disabilities. Notably, passengers with limited mobility will be able to use four of the five doors, compared to just two on older trams. The ForCity Plus 52T trams are part of Prague’s broader strategy to modernize public transport. The city has recently completed three new tram lines, with two more under construction, including a historic project on Wenceslas Square and the new Dvorecký Bridge in southern Prague.
Scheinherr hopes Prague will exercise its full option to purchase all 200 trams under the current contract, allowing the city to replace outdated non-low-floor trams and maintain its status as one of the world’s top public transport systems.
This initiative represents a major step forward in Prague’s commitment to efficient, inclusive, and sustainable urban mobility.
