Czech firm Draslovka, the world’s largest producer of solid sodium cyanide, expands globally and strengthens its presence in Australia

Czech chemical leader Draslovka is ramping up global operations with new cyanide production plants in Egypt, Peru, and Indonesia — while reinforcing its footprint in Australia through mining partnerships and sustainable extraction technologies.

Czech chemical group Draslovka, the world’s largest producer of solid sodium cyanide used in mining, is accelerating its global expansion with new cyanide production facilities planned in Egypt, Peru, and Indonesia. The company is responding to growing geopolitical and resource security concerns by building joint ventures in resource-rich regions lacking local processing capacity.

Draslovka’s CEO, Pavel Brůžek, explained that operating closer to end markets allows the company to reduce logistics costs and business risks while supporting local mining ecosystems. In Egypt, the company has signed an EPC contract with Petrochemical Holding. In Indonesia and Peru — both key markets for gold and base metals — Draslovka is progressing through the engineering phase of factory development, having already secured licences for cyanide production.

Draslovka’s expansion strategy relies on local partners and focuses on providing technology, operational licences, and manufacturing know-how rather than majority ownership. This reduces capital intensity and ensures better alignment with local conditions.

Draslovka has also been present in Australia since 2015 through its Melbourne-based subsidiary, Draslovka Services Pty Ltd, which leads its agricultural chemical operations across the Asia-Pacific region. In the mining sector, Draslovka operates through Encore Minerals, partnering with Poseidon Nickel to retreat gold and nickel tailings at the Windarra site in Western Australia using its proprietary Glycine Leaching Technology (GLT). This innovative, environmentally friendly method is also the focus of a $3 million research project with Curtin University.

Draslovka’s emphasis on sustainable extraction positions it as a valuable partner for mining operators seeking to reduce their environmental footprint while improving recovery efficiency.

The company’s expansion reflects a growing need for localised, sustainable chemical solutions in the mining sector.
