Jakub Berdych Karpelis & Qubus presents curated selection of luxury home decor by Qubus complemented by art pieces. The fair will present in premiere abroad novelties of Qubus such as Vanitas and the Franz Kafka Lamp.
Jakub Berdych Karpelis (*1971, Czech Republic) is Czech conceptual artist, designer and scupltor. Co-founder of one of the first independent Czech (art)design brands and studios: Qubus (est. 2002). Apart from being the art director and chief designer of Qubus, Jakub Berdych Karpelis, has also focused on conceptual work across medium of glass, stone and porcelain, traditional Czech materials. He has created comprehensive collections, objects and products that had been presented by i.e. Moss Gallery New York or Mint Gallery London. His works have been included in number of museums and private art collection and presented at solo and group exhibitions worldwide.
Jakub Berdych Karpelis’s art pieces show significant play with irony, morphology and function. Central European sarcasm meets commentary on the world around us. His objects mirrorr prejudices and reflect cultural and social themes and trends. Among the products in the Qubus portfolio, we offer both luxury and everyday pieces that shape taste and push its boundaries. With all products handmade in Bohemia, we cultivate the time-honored practice of Czech arts and crafts in a contemporary manner. Qubus has collaborated with renowned galleries and institutions, and curated and exhibited projects wordlwide. We cooperate with local manufacturers using unique methods, including hand-blowing, snapping, cutting, grinding, firing, engraving and painting.
What are you going to present at Collectible?
At Collectible Brussels we will present curated selection of collectible design objects and art pieces by Qubus & Jakub Berdych Karpelis. Some glass objects such as Akwards (2024) will be shown for the first time to the public. Selected new glass and porcelain objects (Vanitas, 2024) will be complemented by timeless luxury interior pieces Hande Hoch (2016). Selected art works include handblown glass objects Narcissus (2021) as well as two light objects The Good (2024) and Franz Kafka Lamp (2025).
What are highlights?
Since 2002 Qubus became renowned brand and several products by Qubus have been listed among design icons wordwide. In 2026 Qubus will celebrate 25th anniversary which will be accompanied by comprehensice exhibition Phenomenon Qubus 25 at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague (November, 2025) and a monography covering 25 years of one of the most popular Czech design brands which won the attention of both general public and proffesionals by humour, wit and irony, adding another form, meanings and context to products of everyday life.
